Climbing Croagh Patrick

So, me and my girlfriend climbed Croagh Patrick! We have lived close to this mountain for the past few years and have always said that we should climb it and today was the day. To be honest I thought it was going to be relatively easy but boy was I wrong! Now I’m not the fittest person going but I really was not ready for the climb ahead!

A statue of Saint Patrick under ‘The Reek’

Croagh Patrick which is nicknamed ‘The Reek’ is located outside of a town called Westport on the west coast of Ireland. It is a famous landmark as it is a place of pilgrimage and is in an iconic mountain point shape when looking at it from a distance. The tales that go with Croagh Patrick are with Saint Patrick who is the patron saint of Ireland. Most of you probably know about Saint Patrick from Saint Patricks Day on the 17th of March which is now celebrated all over the world. It is from the top of Croagh Patrick that Saint Patrick banished all the snakes and demons from Ireland. There is a church constructed at the top and mass is said up there during the time of pilgrimage and there has even been a wedding up there! Some people choose to climb the mountain in their bare feet as Saint Patrick did, but this is not advised. More information about this mountain and its history can be found here.

The church at the top of the mountain

The climb up Croagh Patrick is not really a climb but more a very steep walk. There are a couple of ways up the mountain, but we went the pilgrimage way which is a trail that leads up to about halfway up the mountain then a steep climb to the very top. I must be honest I was wrecked just getting to the part where the actual mountain starts as it’s a steep climb. The mountain looks very daunting when you are standing at the very base and the trail looks dangerous with loose rock and one way up and down. However, there were loads of people doing it even children, so we had to battle on and get to the top.

A view of the final climb to the top featured on Advertiser.ie

Once we got to the top the view was amazing! It was a great day to do the climb and you could see for miles in every direction inland and out to sea. It felt great to have made it to the top and it was a great achievement. We got a few of the necessary Instagram shots at the top and then began to make our descent. Getting down the top part is very tricky as its very steep and it is all loose rock. On the way down we met mountain rescue members with a man who had decided to climb in his bare feet and had nearly made it the whole was but was forced to stop due to the condition of his feet. He had to get airlifted off the mountain which was cool to see.

Eventually we made it back down to the bottom and into the car safe and sound! Looking back up at the mountain it felt great and we had a great sense of achievement. Maybe getting to the top will even bring us some good luck as some people say!

That’s all for this post! It’s a bit of a longer read but I hope you guys enjoyed. Leave a comment if there are any questions you have about Croagh Patrick or our experience and I will answer as best I can!

My biggest fear! Whats yours ?

Hey guys this is a random blog post just sharing a part of me with you! Hope you enjoy! Let me know what your biggest fear is in the comment section!

My biggest fear and the only thing I’m scared of is SPIDERS!! I don’t know why or where the fear came from but I just hate spiders. No matter how big or small I run away like a baby at the sight of them! I’m a pretty big guy, 21 years old and 6ft 1′ but the sight of a baby spider and I run a mile!

Even writing about this is making the hairs stand up on my arms and I probably wont be able to sleep tonight because now, it will be all I can think about!

I can remember as a child waking everyone in the house up in the middle of the night because I was sure there was a spider in my room! I did this constantly for years which I’m sure didn’t help create the fear I have now! It was awful the constant fear that they were around me crawling around just EWW! I HATE them!

There used to be a little spider that lived behind the wing mirror of my car. Everyday before work I used to have a cigarette in the car and if I flicked ash into the spiders web he would crawl out and get rid of it! I can remember apologizing to spider throwing away my cigarette and rolling up my window. I even started smoking out the passenger side just so I didn’t annoy him! After a while he started coming out from behind the mirror every time I got in the car and I used to say hello. This was the closest I have ever come to liking a spider or even not minding one!

Don’t get me wrong I’m not one of those people who are scared of everything! It’s just spiders! I don’t mind heights, flying, snakes or anything else just spiders!

When I go on holiday on Monday there is a place we are going called a Zoo cafe. You get to hold animals and all that while at it. My girlfriend is seriously considering holding a Tarantula! I think I will have to leave if the place while she does it if she goes through with it!

Anyways that’s it for this post! Let me know what are your fears in the comments!

Thank you for all the likes and follows on my previous posts I really hope you are enjoying this blog!

Making a return

Image result for guess whos back

So a long while ago I decided to start a blog and well lets just say it didn’t go as i planned. I could never find the time or motivation to come up with new things to talk about or really get into it. So earlier today I was searching through my laptop and found this old blog that I had and thought now would be a perfect time to give it another go!

A lot has changed in my life since I stopped this blog. I got a new house with my girlfriend, completed another year at college (passing all my exams!!), completed a 3 month placement, got to travel on a cruise around Norway and still have my job! So it really has been a great year.

For the future my main plan is to finish college and head into ‘the real world’. I feel pretty prepared as I have worked part-time for the past 3 years now and I’m ready for the next step in getting a full-time job and making a living. I hope that I get a decent job that I enjoy and keep my close friends I have made.

This blog has always been intended to be a personal one where I share my thoughts, feelings and day to day life. I’m going to try and post every day and try to keep my content creative and entertaining! This post is an exception as it is just an update to mark my return!

If anybody is reading this far down please let me know what you think are good things to include in my blog. I really want to make a proper go at it this time and see where I end up! I look forward to hopefully getting to know some people and seeing this blog grow 🙂

That’s all I’m going to include in this post. My main idea is to start a day by day update blog with what is happening in my life hoping that some of you can relate. Along side the day by day I will do some longer more relevant posts to share with you.

Anyway I hope you all enjoy my content and I really look forward to seeing what is to come. Again, if anybody has any advice for me please comment below and I will take it all aboard.

Stay safe and catch you in the next blog! CHARLIE.

Introduction

My name is Charlie. I have to admit doing this feels weird but right at the same time if anyone can relate to that! I’m new to all of this and don’t really know what i’m doing but this is me giving it a go! I thought a good way to start would be to share with you all about myself and my life so here it goes! As i said my name is Charlie, i’m 19 years old and i’m from Ireland. I live in the west of Ireland with my Girlfriend. We are both in college and working part-time. I’ve spent a while looking for where i can upload this sort of a Blog and this seemed like the right place. If I have got the complete wrong idea and this is a place for more formal Blogs then I apologize to you all and hope you can forgive me. My family is split into 2 as my parents split when I was young, but i will get more into that further down the line. Most of my family live here in Ireland but a good few live in England too. I can find myself torn at times with my family but hey i guess that’s just life. I’m always trying new ways to earn money which usually ends up with me loosing all my money on something such as a ‘100% bet’. Overall i’m happy with the hand that life has dealt me and I take each day as it comes. I hope for this blog to be somewhere where I can share my memories day by day and also tell old stories and memories from my past along side them. Maybe somebody can relate to my life or some of you just get enjoyment from reading about my life. I’m sure most people will just keep scrolling past my post but if a few people like my blog than that’s great! I will continue to post as often as i can. You will probably find me complaining about something one day and being over the moon with life the next but that’s just me! Each Blog title will outline what each blog is about so you can decide if you want to read it or not although I hope you do read it anyway and find yourself happy that you did.

That’s all i’m going to include in this Blog as it is just an intro and a little bit about myself. I will reply to anyone who wants to leave a comment or share anything with me and any feedback I will take on board. I hope you will enjoy my blog and I have even sparked a little bit of interest with this post.

Catch you in the next blog! Charlie.
